Track teams compete at Bucknell Distance Carnival and Slippery Rock

The Fighting Scots track teams competed at both Bucknell University and Slippery Rock this past weekend.

At Bucknell, Danielle Cerroni led the girls with a time of 5:01.81 in the 1,500-meter Run, finishing in seventh place.

In the same event, Cheryl Svetz finished less than a second behind her teammate for eighth place with a time of 5:02.47. In section one, Tina Yi finished eighth with a time of 4:49.73. Hannah Kucewicz finished 13th in the fourth section with a time of 5:02.90.

On the men's side Scott Anderson finished third in the fifth section with a time of 3:58.27.

Dustin Thomas led three Boro finishers in the third section of the 5,000 meter run, finishing 23rd with a time of 15:24.29. Teammates Jordan Roose and Sean Naderer finished 28th and 30th respectively.

In the 10,000 meter run, Josh Arthur finished 28th with a time of 31:10.31 while teammate

Jake Krolick came in two places after Arthur with a time of 31:14.68.

The following day, the remainder of the track team competed at the Slippery Rock Invite. Hannah Kucewicz, competed in her second straight day of racing and led the way with a pair of third-place finishes in the 400 and 800-meter runs. In the 400 meter race, Kucewicz crossed the finish line in 1:01.30, just 19 one-hundredths of a second off of second place. She maintained her focus in the 800m, finishing third once again with a time of 2:23.48, just ahead of teammates Cheryl Svetz and Hillary Weismiller who finished in fourth and fifth place, respectively. Kucewicz also ran the anchor leg for the Fighting Scots’ 4x400 meter relay team, which came in third in 4:08.89.

Weismiller was the Fighting Scots’ highest finisher, placing second in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 4:52.48. Ashley Lewis finished fifth in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 16.62 and ran the opening portion of the 4x400  and 4x100 relay, where Edinboro finished second with a time of 52.65. Heather Pence was fifth in the high jump with a mark of 1.45 meters.

On the men's side Jason Borst crossed the finish line with a winning time of 53.56, a little more than a 1.5 seconds ahead of Slippery Rock’s Ethan Geisler. Borst, also ran the anchor leg on the Fighting Scots’ 4x100 meter relay team, which finished first in 43.79 seconds. In addition, Borst helped guide Edinboro to a runner-up finish in the 4x400 meter relay.

The Fighting Scots earned second-place finishes in five other events. Kyle Maio finished second in the 110m hurdles with a time of 16.15 and also finished fifth behind Borst in the 400m hurdles. Josh Brown and Kyle Wunz finished second in the 100 and 200m dashes, respectively, and ran the first two legs for Edinboro’s winning 4x100 meter relay team. Wunz also competed in the 4x400.

Darren Campbell finished second in the 800m run with a time of 1:59.12, while Chris Carpin tied for second in the pole vault with a height of 4.26 meter. In other results Owen Venesky earned a time of 33:54.45 for third place in the mixed 10,000 meter run, just ahead of fourth-place finisher and teammate Mike Thielman.
