Edinboro's record-setting quarterback Trevor Harris has agreed to a free agent contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars of the National Football League. The announcement came just moments after Harris was not taken in the 2010 NFL Draft.
Harris is a 6'3", 215-pound quarterback who was named Edinboro's Sox Harrison Award winner, symbolic of the Senior Male Athlete of the Year, on Saturday night. He departs as the holder of every Edinboro passing and total offense records, and has etched his name among both the NCAA Division II and PSAC career leaders.
In fact, Harris is in the top five in every PSAC career statistical category. In his final game, a Super Region One semifinal loss at West Liberty, he completed 50 of 76 passes for 630 yards, all school records. The 630 yards are a Division II playoff record, breaking the standard of 595 set by Keith Null of West Texas A&M in 2008. He threw for 5 TDs to tie his own school record, and finished with a school record 647 yards in total offense. He added two touchdowns rushing to account for seven touchdowns in all.
A two-time Harlon Hill Trophy finalist and three-time regional finalist, Harris finished his career with 11,899 yards passing, good for second all-time in the PSAC and fifth all-time in Division II. In addition, his career total of 12,691 yards in total offense is also second all-time in the PSAC and sixth in Division II. Harris totaled 100 career passing touchdowns, second in the PSAC and 15th in Division II. He set a new PSAC career record for completions (966), while standing third in career pass attempts in the PSAC with 1,464. He threw for 300-or-more yards 12 times and for 400-or-more yards four times. All told he holds seven of the top ten single-game figures for yards passing, and nine of the top ten figures in total offense at Edinboro.
Harris went down with a knee injury against Clarion, and it looked as if his season had come to a premature end. He would undergo surgery for a torn meniscus, and nine days later he was leading the Fighting Scots to a 31-16 win over East Stroudsburg in the NCAA Division II Playoffs. He completed 28 of 39 passes for 298 yards and 3 TDs vs. the Warriors. The senior quarterback would then go on to play in the 9th Annual Valero Cactus Bowl.
Harris ended the year completing 269 of 402 passes for a school-record 3,304 yards, with 24 TDs and 8 INTs. He also finished as the second-leading rusher with 370 yards on 112 carries with 6 TDs.
Harris broke his own record for total offense in a season with 3,674 yards. He became the first Edinboro quarterback to throw for at least 2,500 yards all four seasons, and also to throw for at least 20 TDs all four seasons. Harris ranked 16th in Division II in passing, 12th in passing yards per game, 11th in total passing yards, 15th in passing efficiency and 10th in total offense. He was first in the PSAC in passing yards per game, passing efficiency and total offense.
The honors poured in for Harris once again. In addition to finishing as a Harlon Hill Trophy national finalist, he was named to the 2009 Football Gazette All-America Team and the D2Football.com All-American teams. He was an honorable mention choice on both for the second straight year.
