The Fighting Scots split their final two games this week with an 88-73 loss to IUP Wednesday, and an 86-79 overtime win over Clarion Saturday.  The victory over Clarion moved Edinboro (5-9, 11-16) to sixth place in the PSAC West, and it is the first time in nine years they will miss the playoffs.

“It hasn't been a year that’s gone the way any of us have wanted it to go,” said head coach Greg Walcavich.

“We went eight straight years and the worst we ever did was tied for second, and nobody has ever done that before.”

The Scots struggled defensively against the first-place Crimson Hawks, allowing them to shoot 57 percent from the floor.  Junior Byron Knight led the way with 22 points in the loss to IUP Wednesday.

Justin Moore posted his seventh double-double of the season with 13 points and 11 rebounds.  Al Muteba and Chris Bess each scored 10 points off the bench.

Danny Walsh scored the first seven points of overtime to send Edinboro’s four seniors out with a bang in a win over Clarion Saturday afternoon.  Justin Moore, Chris Bess, Andrew Walczak, and Vlad Kovalesky each played their final game in an Edinboro Uniform.

Walsh finished with 19 points, leading four Fighting Scots in double figures.  “Danny was driving to the hoop and just made plays,” said Walcavich.

The back and forth victory hinged on Edinboro’s ability to force Clarion into tough looks as the Golden Eagles shot just 1-19 from beyond the arc in the game.

“They score so well in transition, we were trying to take away what they do well,” said Walcavich.

“We continued to play and execute and fortunately it worked out for us.”

Justin Moore finished with 15 points and 12 rebounds for his eighth double-double.  Moore now has 596 career rebounds, good for 19th place all-time at Edinboro.  Byron Knight added 18 points and 8 rebounds, and Chris Bess had 14 points and 8 rebounds.

“I have mixed feelings,” said Bess.  “I'm getting old, my body is getting old, but you have to say goodbye and it was fun while it lasted.”
