Slippery Rock held off a late Edinboro rally to claim a 14-12 win over the visiting Fighting Scots on Monday night in a PSAC West contest.   The loss was the tenth straight for Edinboro and left the Fighting Scots at 2-11 overall and 0-7 in the PSAC West.  Slippery Rock improved to 6-7 overall and 2-5 in the conference.

The Rock’s Alexis Slutsky broke a 6-6 tie with seven seconds left in the first half, then SRU scored seven of the first eight goals in the second half to take a 14-7 lead with 14:59 remaining.  The Fighting Scots struggled with turnovers during that period, committing seven in all.

The Fighting Scots rallied to pull to within two goals with 1:51 remaining when Kristin Sann  scored her fourth goal of the match, making it 14-12.  Edinboro would force a Slippery Rock turnover, but an Edinboro turnover in the final minute ended the comeback attempt.

Sann began Edinboro’s comeback with a goal at the 11:44 mark, assisted by Leanne Stickle.  Fourteen seconds later the Scots were back on the board as Shannon Rohrich scored her fourth goal of the season.  Stickle scored off a feed from Rohrich at 10:38 to make it 14-10.

Neither team would score for over seven minutes until Kaitlin Magee scored, assisted by Sann, at 3:14.

Sann ended the night with four goals and a pair of assists.  Rohrich added three goals and an assist, with Stickle contributing two goals and an assist.  Kaitlin Magee had a goal and three assists while Brittany Havrilla and Lauren Kincaid had a goal apiece.

Slippery Rock held a 30-21 advantage in shots.  Julie McAvoy registered nine saves in goal for the Fighting Scots.  Ariel Knox led The Rock with four goals.  The Fighting Scots, minus several starters including leading scorer Abbey Mackessy, finished with 23 turnovers.  SRU had 19.

In the Scot's next game, Lock Haven’s women’s lacrosse team showed why it was the national runner-up in 2009 and is the third-ranked team in the nation this season with a 23-2 victory. The defeat was the 11th consecutive loss for the Fighting Scots. Lock Haven maintained its undefeated record, moving to 12-0 overall, 8-0 in league play.

The Lady Eagles scored the first 15 goals of the match and went into halftime with a 15-2 lead. Edinboro got on the board with 1:46 remaining in the first half when Kristin Sann scored an unassisted goal. Moments later, a goal by Kaitlin Magee off an assist by Sann at the 26.9 mark made it 15-2. Lock Haven scored eight unanswered goals in the second half to close out the convincing victory.

11 different players scored for Lock Haven, led by six goals apiece for Elyse Fisher and Leigh Titus. Allison Berger had a team high 7 assists for the Lady Eagles.

Edinboro maintained that momentum in the second half by opening the period with seven straight goals. Tiffin never managed to pull within more than six goals of the Fighting Scots’ lead.

The Fighting Scots dominated Tiffin in shots with a 44-24 advantage and also led in ground balls, 34-24. Edinboro had 27 turnovers, one less than the Lady Dragons, while Tiffin held a slight 10-9 advantage in saves.
