Edinboro University’s online Master of Education programs not only continue to score rave reviews nationally, but actually climbed higher in the May 2010 U.S. News and World Report’s annual rankings.
Edinboro University’s online Master of Education programs are again cited in the current issue of U.S. News & World Report magazine for being among the nation’s largest online graduate programs.
While ranked 19th of the top 20 such programs in 2009, Edinboro’s current ranking of 14th in the top 25 listing demonstrates even greater student acceptance and satisfaction with online programming in graduate studies.
"We remain extremely proud of our online programs,” said Scott Baldwin, the dean of graduate studies and research. “They not only provide a great way for students in rural areas to access graduate level educational programming that would otherwise be unavailable to them, but these online programs also create flexibility for students with job and family commitments. Online education provides opportunities that they might otherwise miss."
The program – which has grown since its launching in 2001 with a 24-student cohort to now accommodate more than 800 education students and some 1,100 online students overall – ranks among the nation’s top 25 providers of online graduate programs for professional educators in terms of enrollment.
While the fall 2009 total graduate program enrollment was a record 1,816 students, the University is projecting a total graduate school enrollment of 2,100 for the coming fall. The 1,100 overall spring semester online graduate studies program enrollment is expected to grow as well in the fall semester.
Associate Dean of the Graduate School Erinn Lake said, “What an honor to be recognized by U.S. News & World Report as one of the largest online providers in the nation. This recognition speaks to the University's continued commitment and service to students and our ability to meet their increasing need for academically engaging online programs. This ranking in terms of enrollment speaks well of Edinboro University's outstanding faculty who have adapted their challenging accredited curriculums to the online medium."
The magazine noted that Edinboro provides its students with technical help 24/7, limits class size to 25 students, and is among the most affordable of those university programs listed.
All of Edinboro University's master’s degrees in education are nationally accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education and regionally accredited by the Middle States Association.
Edinboro University’s faculty leaders involved with the online education graduate programs also expressed pride in the program’s growth.
“We have been very pleased to witness the enthusiastic response to our new online M.A. in art education from our students,” said Penelope Orr, program head for M.A. in art education. “The faculty and administration are excited about the program’s continued growth and see it as an opportunity to further meet the needs of our students through our personalized and community-centered online learning process.”
Andy Pushchak, program head for Educational Leadership, said, “The exciting part of the growth in our online enrollment is the continued dedication to quality programming and meeting the needs of our students as demonstrated by our faculty, administration and staff.”
“Edinboro University’s online program growth is yet another testimony to the mission that ‘great things happen’ at this institution,” said Denise F. Gaines, program head for graduate reading in the professional studies department. “Providing cutting edge online education with strong technical support, highly qualified faculty, standards-based content, and welcoming, accommodating staff is becoming a part of Edinboro’s legacy. Being an active part of this process is exciting and rigorous.”
