For most of us, the first week of classes is rough. This year, when we turn to a good cup of coffee to get us through the day, we may be going to Tim Hortons.
The Canadian-based company opened jointly with Cold Stone Creamery on July 14 in the previously vacant Dairy Queen building located at 201 W. Plum Street.
The restaurant is locally owned and operated by Brian and Jen Schibler of Erie.
Tim Hortons provides coffee-holics and more casual drinkers a convenient cup of coffee as well as bagels, croissants, donuts, sandwiches and more. According to Jon Maurer, Tim Horton's regional marketing manager, "Edinboro is our third new restaurant in the United States with our new café and bake shop menu."
While enjoying a selection of beverages and baked goods, customers can enjoy free WIFI, watch TV or relax by the fireplace 24/7. Tim Hortons is also a great place to study, but for such a popular restaurant it is hard to get a seat.
According to John Groh, building and zoning code administrator for the borough of Edinboro, the building may be in for a second round of renovations and additions.
"The owners have told me they are re-examining their seating," said Groh, "and possibly adding to the building." Although he said there are no definite plans in place.
"We have been very pleased with the response from the community," said Maurer of the great amount of business. "We had such a warm welcome when we opened, so many people are excited Tim Hortons is now in Edinboro."
"It is always good to see vacant buildings be reused and occupied with viable businesses," said Groh.
Look for coupons in and around the campus or, to find out about special offers, check out Tim Hortons on Facebook, where the business currently have more than 1,000,000 fans.
"We encourage everyone to ‘like' us,'" said Maurer. He also told The Spectator the company plans to open another restaurant in Meadville later this year, or early next year.
