Although Sunday was supposed to be the first day of spring, a warm fall aroma lingered through the Edinboro Volunteer Fire Hall. The second annual Edinboro Maple Fest was held this past weekend by Edinboro Historical Society. An estimated crowd of 1,500 was offered a buttermilk pancake breakfast with locally-made maple syrup for purchase.
Council members discussed the possibility of banning cell phone usage while driving at the Edinboro Borough Council meeting on March 14. Council member Michael Amidon asked the council to consider putting a ban on cell phone use while driving in the borough of Edinboro, including texting and making or answering calls.

The Orange Route of the campus bus system is being discontinued for the remainder of the semester after March 5, allegedly. The Erie Metropolitan Transit Authority (EMTA) has decided to exchange the 14-passenger bus route for an additional stop at about 4 p.

One dead, several left homeless
A sudden fire burned through two Meadville businesses, caused one fatality and left seven people homeless early Tuesday morning as firefighters rushed to Market St. at around 3:30 a.m. William Gerritsen, 55, has been identified by the Crawford County Coronor's Office.
Some students consider the drive to Erie a weekly thing. They can take a trip to the mall, go see a movie, or grab a bite to eat. For others, however, the trip may be life-altering. The Erie County area's Road to Recovery program is urging the community to use that trip to Erie for more than food and a flick.
Borough officials are planning to have work done on several sidewalks in need of maintenance. According to Borough Manager T.J. Jemetz, the section of Waterford Street located between Meadville and Ontario streets will be receiving the most attention.
Lakeside Health Mart Pharmacy held its grand opening on Jan. 18. The pharmacy is owned by two local pharmacists who hope to work together with the community to put the "care" back in "healthcare." Vandalism leads to winter-break closing
After 11 years of providing a scene for musicians and music lovers, The Hangout, located on West Plum Street in Edinboro, has closed its doors without the goodbye its loyal supporters desired. Although the process of closing the venue began in November 2010, an unfortunate act of vandalism involving an outdoor water faucet caused the building's pipes to burst, creating an excessive amount of water damage not covered by the building's lease.
Edinboro University students will have the opportunity to participate in two programs during the 2011 summer. Open to only 12 colleges nationally, Edinboro students can sail on the Flagship Niagara for three weeks while earning history credit or environmental science credit from Edinboro.
Months after a fire destroyed a two-story building at 103 Erie St., its owner Lori Barefield is ready to take the next steps in the rebuilding process. The building, which housed students and three businesses including a hair salon, an optometrist's office, and a lawyer's office, was destroyed in the fire.
Borough Council met Monday in joint executive session with the Edinboro Water Authority Board over the geothermal wells being drilled at Cooper Hall on the Edinboro University campus. Borough Mayor John B. Austin said there was discussion about "possible litigation" over the drilling of 153 geothermal wells on campus for the $30 million Cooper Hall renovation and expansion.

Contract to renovate 150-year-old fountain awarded, work begins
Meadville citizens saw a piece of local history removed from their city on Tuesday, Sept. 28, although its absence will be short lived. The Shippen Fountain, located in Meadville's Diamond Park, was shipped to Alexander City, Ala. to undergo a reported $62,080 restoration at Robinson Iron.
Erie County Executive Barry Grossman will be the featured speaker Tuesday, Oct. 12, at Edinboro University's Friends of the Baron-Forness Library's annual "Dinner and a Book" membership event. Hundreds of K-12 educators to learn new strategies
Professional educators have long known the key to successful teaching during the primary and secondary years is literacy – the ability of their students to read and write at or above grade level. Because of the critical importance of literacy in the entire educational process, hundreds of area K-12 educators from throughout northwestern Pennsylvania will convene at Edinboro University Monday, Oct.
While Edinboro University hosts its fair share of events for Homecoming weekend, the community of Edinboro holds its own set of activities as well. "(Homecoming) is always a great opportunity for the community to welcome back alumni," said Renee Thayer-Allison, owner of Eclectic Etceteras Coffee House and president of the Edinboro Business Association.
