Members of the Edinboro University Student Government Association (SGA) executive board began the first meeting of the year on Sept. 14 with important information and announcements for students.

SGA president Jamie Lutz shared her report, summarizing changes made over the summer, such as the relocation of the SGA offices to the old game room on the second floor of the Frank G. Pogue Student Center.

Lutz also emphasized the work done by the executive board over the summer months.

The board attended a retreat at Porreco and planned new ideas and events for the upcoming semester, including an on-campus bonfire for students during homecoming weekend, a cannon sponsored through ROTC to be used at football games and other events, and the return of Rachel's Challenge.

Also announced was an update on the Fighting Scots' statue, which the Alumni Association says should arrive in time for graduation this spring.

Lastly, Lutz explained some of her goals as the new SGA president.

She plans to incorporate speaking limits at meetings and will encourage members of Congress not to leave meetings early.

She also hopes to order shirts for SGA members in order to create a professional look for the organization.

In addition, Lutz plans to increase SGA's involvement across campus.

"We're trying to be more open and involved with more parts of the university," she said.

Vice president Chris Bost explained his goals for the year, including revisions to the annual safety walk and pushing for the installation of change machines in the dormitories.

Funding balances for the year were also announced, with $12,517 in the unallocated fund and $90,494.50 in the general fund.

Parliamentarian Ben Krutko , who emphasized his hopes for more professionalism at meetings, also supported speaking limits and following parliamentary procedure.

SGA Director of Operations Mike Robel made an announcement about Collegiate Link, which is currently being integrated with the new Live@edu e-mail system.

According to Robel, SGA is also working on becoming paperless with all forms and information.

Dean of Student Life Kahan Sablo was introduced as SGA's new advisor, taking the place of Jerry Kiel.

Sablo said he "looks forward to having a good year and helping SGA move forward."
