As the fall semester comes to a close, the Edinboro University Community Outreach Center is reflecting on past events and preparing for new ones.

R.A.K.E.

On Saturday Nov. 7, 474 individuals donated 1000 hours and filled 1800 bags of leaves as part of the center's annual R.A.K.E. project. Although the event has ended, there are still several residents in the community who would like their yard to be raked. Clubs and organizations in need of service hours should contact the center for more information.

EDINBORO CARES

is beginning its third year. The center participates in this project to remember and recognize troops in service. The project asks for donations of items that can be sent to service men and women overseas. A list of acceptable items is available at the center. These items include foods, personal care supplies, and simple recreational things. All items must be received by noon on Monday, Nov. 30.

SPONSOR A NEEDY CHILD

With the holidays fast approaching, there is a tremendous need for Christmas gifts for those children whose families will not be able to afford gifts. Starting on Nov 16, the center will be distributing the names of over 200 children from ages 2 months to 16 years who are in need of a brighter Christmas. Anyone interested in sponsoring a child or children should stop by the center. A Christmas tree set up outside of the office will be decorated with the name and age of the child. A sign out sheet will be provided in order for the center to track who has which child. Those who take a child but are unable to provide a gift should return that child's name to the center. All gifts should be brought to the center by Dec. 11, and should be unwrapped and placed in labeled gift bags.

The Salvation Army is in need of bell ringers at Giant Eagle and Wal-Mart. Those interested iun volunteering should stop by the office to sign up for dates and time slots in need of being filled.

There is always a need for volunteers, if you would like more information please give the Community Outreach Center a call at 814-732-1720. Emails may be directed to Dr. Denise F. Gaines at dfgaines@edinboro.edu or Patrick Kinzig at pk050316@scots.edinboro.edu.
