The Edinboro University Equestrian Team sent two riders to the national competition of the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) on April 23-26 in Tennessee.
After having never had a horseback rider reach the national competition in its first seven years of competition, the Fighting Scots sent one competitor last season.
This season, they're sending two.
Sophomores Kiley Iszkula and Lindsay Carter both qualified for the nationals for earning second-place ribbons in their respective skill levels in the IHSA's Zone III competition last weekend hosted by the University of Scranton.
Iszkula's red ribbon came in open flat class, the highest English-style, hunter seat skill level.
Carter earned her second place in the walk-trot class.
Iszkula also placed fourth in fence jumping at the zone competition.
Both Fighting Scots had scored amongst the top two places consistently all season.
Now, they'll try to follow the path of teammate Karen Sommer, who went to Los Angeles, Calif. last May and finished ninth in the country at the walk-trot-canter.
This year's nationals are being held at Murfreesboro, Tenn.
Penn State and Lafayette will represent Region III in the nine-region national team championship.
Edinboro had finished second in the 16-team Region III, Zone 3 season competition, runner-up the West Virginia University. WVU finished fourth in the Region III horse show at Scranton.
The Fighting Scots are coached by Lew Trumble.
