Krista Bradley avoids the tag while sliding into second base. Bradley collected two hits and scored a run in the Fighting Scots sweep of Mercyhurst College. The Edinboro softball team went 3-3 during the week, including 3-1 at home, after debuting their new field after two postponements.

The Edinboro University softball team had a busy schedule this past week. They finally hosted home games against Slippery Rock University and Mercyhurst College and went on the road to face No. 22 California University of Pennsylvania.

On April 16, the Fighting Scots hosted a pair of home games for the first time this season against Slippery Rock. Due to inclement weather and field conditions, previous attempts were unsuccessful.

In Game One, the team was anxious to show the home crowd their skills as sophomore pitcher Beth Mullins got the start.

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the fourth inning when the Scots scored three runs. Freshman catcher Aimee Sisson went 1-for-3 with an RBI, and fellow freshman right fielder went 1-for-2 and was responsible for the other two RBIs.

That was all the offense Mullins needed to secure the victory, as she pitched a complete game, three-hit shutout and struck out eight batters.

Edinboro won the game with a score of 3-0.

The Scots looked for the sweep in Game Two, but were unsuccessful as they lost a close 3-2 decision in 10 innings.

The Scots scored single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to lead 2-1. Slippery Rock scored one in the top of inning 10 to take the lead 3-2. Unfortunately, the Scots could not answer and another solid start by Mullins did not translate into a win.

The following day, the Scots took on Mercyhurst in the second home series of the season.

The first game was close but Edinboro came out on top 4-2.

Sission, senior Alicia Gordon, freshman Jade Thrower and Hall accounted for all the RBIs with one apiece.

Mullins pitched yet another complete game, giving up two runs and striking out five.

Game Two was more of the same as the Scots continued the offensive onslaught, winning 9-5.

Dana Webb, Hall and Thrower had two RBIs each. Not to be outdone were Sisson, Gordon, and freshman third baseman Brittney Price contributed with an RBI, as well.

Fatigue may have begun to set in as Mullins pitched her fourth complete game in two days, but got the win to improve to 11-7 on the season.

The team looked to take the momentum they gained at home into their series with California University on April 18. However, the momentum was short lived as the 22nd ranked Vulcans beat the Scots by scores of 3-2 and12-4, respectively.

With a 3-3 record for the week, the Scots are now 22-17 on the season and currently have a 5-7 record in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West.

With only a handful of games left, they will be looking to make a push for the playoffs. Three teams from the PSAC West receive a spot in the playoffs.
