October can be one of the most beautiful months in Crawford County, but this year it has also been projected to be the scariest.
Conneaut Lake Park's Ghost Lake is back again this year. It commemorates the Hotel Conneaut's haunted past and highlights the thrills of Conneaut Lake's amusement park.
"I went last year and I thought it was really good," said Dusty Johnson, a Meadville resident.
"I'm definitely going again this year, plus it's a good way to help out this local treasure."
The Hotel Conneaut is ranked as one of America's most haunted places. It has been featured on many paranormal investigation television shows.
On April 29, 1943, the hotel was struck by lightning, causing a fire that destroyed more than half of the roof and killing the bride Elizabeth, who is said to haunt the hotel to this day.
Several other spirits are said to haunt the grounds, such as a chef, a ghostly couple in the ballroom, a little girl on a tricycle and a soldier in a tree.
While the hotel is a major attraction, Ghost Lake also features Halloween activities held throughout Conneaut Lake Park.
This year there are eight new levels of fear that are said to take up to one-and-a-half life-changing hours to complete.
The levels include: Dr. Contagious, Tingler's Funeral Home, the House of the Undead, the Haunted Hotel, Terror Down Under, the Fog, Jeepers Creepers Corn Maze and the Black Vortex.
Upon entering the park, visitors receive maps and checklists to guide them from station to station.
The attraction is open are every Friday, Saturday and Sunday during October until Sunday, Nov. 1.
The park is open from 7 p.m. until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays, and from 7 to 11 p.m. Sundays. The cost of admission is $15 for adults and $10.50 for children 12 and under.
In addition to the eight levels of fear, visitors can catch rides like the Train of Terror, the Devil's Den Ride and the Blacklight Bumper Cars and more for $4.50.
Participants can head over to a local Country Fair, Giant Eagle or Perkins to receive a discount.
This event is not recommended for anyone under 10 because it is truly scary. For more information, go to the attraction's Web site, www.conneautlakepark.com.
If haunted parks are not your thing, then consider the Pumpkin Fest that is going on Friday to Sunday, Oct. 9-11, at Conneaut Lake Park.
The Pumpkin Fest is a family-oriented festival with food, crafts and entertainment.
The hours of operation are 4 to 9 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
