With the support of the Edinboro University chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America, a group of students are having a benefit to raise money for Kathleen Paul, a local woman battling cancer.

"I decided to have the event because when I heard Kathleen's story it made me sad that bad things happen to good people," said Mackenzie Friends, chair of the event.

All proceeds from the benefit will be given to Paul who has renal cell carcinoma, better known as kidney cancer. The medications used to treat this type of cancer cost upwards of $7,000 a month.

Boro's Bandstand for Cancer will begin at 7 p.m on Dec. 3, at the Copper Coin Lounge, in Edinboro.

The event will kick off with a performance by the local band 5th Root, followed by Frank & Tom, Romantic Era, Waiting for Never, East Ave. and Letters to the Dead.

Those in attendance will also be able to buy tickets for a Chinese auction, which will feature gift baskets and certificates from area businesses. All proceeds will go toward the woman's medical costs.

"The event is for a great cause and I hope everyone can help me give a little more hope to Kathleen's life," said Friends.
