Ron G. was featured on "Last Comic Standing."

Ron G. began his performance by saying, "Come on, party people, make some noise, come on, I need all 12 of ya'll to make some noise."

This was hardly the case, though, as the Celtic Court in the Pogue Student Center was filled with a crowd last Tuesday night, Oct. 27, to see his performance.

Ron G. is most widely known for his appearance on NBC's TV show "Last Comic Standing," on which he was, "one of six or seven finalists."

His introduction continued with jokes about "a kid" in a colorful jacket who "looks like he smokes weed," a man in a wheelchair eating a Rice Krispies treat and the "three other black people in the room."

Just three days after Ron G. appeared at Edinboro University, he was live on the Comedy Central network.

For the last six years, he has been making people laugh by performing at colleges, being on TV shows like Last Comic Standing and headlining comedy clubs.

Now in his sixth year of being a comedian, he has a purpose to his humor.

"I want people to know you can be Christian and not compromise," he said. "I'm a black comedian but I'm also clean, which is hard to find. And I'm not a church comedian."

Added Ron G.: "You don't have to take the natural route to be successful."

On his Web site he elaborates: "I want to represent the new generation of comedians that get overlooked. I'd like to show the world the new generation is just as funny, clever and talented."

He displayed his purpose through jokes about chastity, how he almost became a father his senior year of college, religion, how some people in Los Angeles only go to church to see famous celebrities and finally, majoring in something you love is important so a recession won't affect you.

Ron G. described his career in comedy as something that he "just fell into" because he graduated from the University of South Carolina with a dual degree in finance and management.

After college he started out as an accountant but said he was "fired from every job" he had.

"I've been the silly guy all my life and never knew I could get paid to do it," he said.

Ron G. believes there are two types of comedians: natural and technical. He described Seinfeld as being a technical comedian, or someone who learned how to be funny.

He described a natural comedian as someone who had been funny their whole life, but might not be able to get on stage in front of a crowd.

Ron G. describes himself as being a natural comedian, who started out by making girls laugh in elementary school.

He personally checks his MySpace and Facebook pages, along with his Web site, GoRonG.com.
